Maverick co-founder, Edmund Hung, participated in an analyst roundtable event on the development of e-payment in China. Participants included executive members of Yeepay and E-Business Journal, the two co-hosts for the event, as well as several representatives from China’s regulatory bodies and domestic research firms. The general consensus of the roundtable was that the China e-commerce industry is still very young, and that the focus right now is on developing a healthy environment to promote widespread adoption of e-payment platforms; specific companies are not what’s important to discuss at this early stage of development, nor are specific business models (m-payment SPs vs. smartcards vs. Monternet); the most important aspect to the development of e-payment is improving the market environment. |
