Yeepay’s Tang Bin Talks About the Future of e-Payment in China

Tang Bin, Yeepay’s CEO, has recently given an interview for Chinese portal eNet. Yeepay is one of China’s leading third-party payment providers, operating telephone, mobile, and online payment platforms. In the interview - The direction of electronic payment, available in Chinese only, Tang Bin talks about Yeepay’s performance in the market and about the state of China’s third-party payment industry as a whole. In this interview Tang Bin made a few interesting points, some of the key ones are summarized below.

 

The Chinese e-payment industry is 10 years lagging behind the USA, mainly due to China’s credit system and financial infrastructure which are not yet developed.

Alipay is one of the China’s largest online payment companies and the exclusive payments provider for online auction and e-commerce leader, Taobao. Both companies are receiving increased exposure of late, as their sister company, Alibaba.com (all of which are part of the Alibaba Group) prepares for a listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE).

Multi-Channel Payments and China UnionPay

In addition to debit cards and credit cards, China UnionPay (a.k.a. China's version of Visa and MasterCard) also directly offers payment services through mobile phones, the internet, and fixed line telephones. China UnionPay, or CUP, offers these services through subsidiary companies - UMPay, Chinapay, and Shanghai Cardinfo.

Internet finally back to normal in Beijing

It has been over a month since the earthquake off the coast of Taiwan, during the time which access to non-Chinese hosted websites were largely unavailable due to slow Internet speeds. Over two weeks after the widely quoted January 15th date (from IHT, from China Daily), I am happy to announce that Internet speeds are finally back to normal in Beijing!
