Our Beijing-based team of analysts offers 15+ years of professional experience in China. Having previously served as the International Division of a domestic market research firm, Maverick's management team understands the challenges to finding a trusted research team and business partner in China. Our bilingual team combines local contacts and industry knowledge with professional market research standards and client services to offer best-of-breed services to our clients.

 

Dave Carini
Dave CariniPrior to founding Maverick China Research, Dave served as analyst, project manager, and international team director at a leading Beijing-based research firm. His current work focuses on 3G, IPTV, VoIP, and other emerging technologies in China. He has been widely quoted on telecom, media, and technology issues in the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, Telecom Asia, Red Herring, and other international publications.

 

Dave has lived and worked in China for over six years, including two years with the Princeton-in-Asia program in Wuhan and one year of advanced Mandarin language study at the Inter-University Program for Chinese Studies at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Dave was raised in Tennessee, attended university in New York City, and has resided in Beijing since 2002. He speaks, reads, and writes Chinese fluently and received his B.A. in History from Columbia University in 1997.

Edmund Hung
Edmund HungEdmund has managed projects for telecom operators, equipment vendors, investment banks, and other consulting companies worldwide. He has also researched and written reports focusing on China's developing payment systems. Edmund's project management and research experience focuses on a variety of sectors, including payment, wireless value-added services (WVAS), mobile handsets, and third-generation (3G) mobile networks and services.

 

Prior to founding Maverick, Edmund served as the director of research and consulting projects at a leading Beijing-based research firm. Edmund has lived in Beijing and Hong Kong since 2002 and began covering Chinese technology markets in 2004. He grew up in San Francisco and is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese. He received his B.A. in Finance, Marketing, and Management from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in Saint Louis in 2002 and completed an intensive Mandarin language course at Tsinghua University in 2004.

Boaz Rottenberg
Boaz RottenbergBoaz has been covering the China telecom market since 2004. His analyst work has focused on wireless value-added services (WVAS), mobile and online payment, cabling, digital music, 3G, and telecom R&D spending in China. Boaz was the lead analyst and writer for Maverick China’s Mobile Music in China: making the right noises, published November 2006, as well as Maverick China’s Third-party Payment in China Series.

 

Prior to co-founding Maverick China Research, Boaz was the director of market research in a leading Beijing Telecom consulting firm and a senior analyst at a China-based market research firm focusing on China’s industrial, medical, and chemical markets. Boaz has worked on projects for companies such as France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, HP, Ortronics, Nokia, and Kodak; and has authored reports on mobile payment, TD-SCDMA network build-out, and 3G networks in China.

 

Boaz has lived in Beijing and Hong Kong for over ten years. He received an M.A. in Economics from the University of Hong Kong and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Haifa in Israel. He grew up in Israel and Hong Kong and is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Hebrew.
