Dave Carini - Managing Director

Dave Carini - Maverick China Research

Dave is co-founder of Maverick China Research and has served as managing director since 2006.  His current work focuses on electronic payments, online advertising, 3G, IPTV, and other emerging technologies in China. He has been widely quoted on telecom, media, and technology issues in the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, and other international publications.

 

Prior to founding Maverick China, Dave served as analyst, project manager, and international team director at a leading Beijing-based telecommunications research firm.

 

Dave has lived and worked in China for more than ten years, including two years with the Princeton-in-Asia program in Wuhan and one year of advanced Mandarin language study at the Inter-University Program for Chinese Studies at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

 

Dave was raised in the United States and has resided in Beijing since 2002. He received his B.A. in History from Columbia University in 1997 and speaks, reads, and writes Chinese fluently.

Boaz Rottenberg - Managing Director

Boaz Rottenberg - Maverick China ResearchBoaz is co-founder of Maverick China Research and has served as managing director since 2006. His current research focuses on China's mobile payment, online payment, wireless value-added services (WVAS), and mobile music markets, among others. He has managed projects for clients such as Visa, France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, HP, and Oliver Wyman. Boaz directs Maverick China's market research operations and oversees all customized projects and market reports.

 

Prior founding Maverick China Research, Boaz was the director of market research at a leading Beijing telecom consulting firm; he also worked as a senior analyst at a China-focused market research firm, where he led a number of projects in the industrial, medical, and chemical sectors.

 

Boaz grew up in Israel and Hong Kong and has lived and worked in Beijing since 2003. He received an M.A. in Economics from the University of Hong Kong and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Haifa in Israel. Boaz is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Hebrew.

Edmund Hung - Director, Business Development
Edmund Hung - Maverick China Research

 

Edmund has managed projects for telecom operators, equipment vendors, investment banks, and other consulting companies worldwide. He has also researched and written reports focusing on China's developing payment systems. Edmund's project management and research experience focuses on a variety of sectors, including payment, wireless value-added services (WVAS), mobile handsets, and third-generation (3G) mobile networks and services.


Prior to founding Maverick, Edmund served as the director of research and consulting projects at a leading Beijing-based research firm. Edmund has lived in Beijing and Hong Kong since 2002 and began covering Chinese technology markets in 2004. He grew up in San Francisco and is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese. He received his B.A. in Finance, Marketing, and Management from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in Saint Louis in 2002 and completed an intensive Mandarin language course at Tsinghua University in 2004.

Miranda Chen - Senior Analyst

 

Miranda has worked at Maverick China Research since 2007. She is in charge of research for most of our larger customized projects, with a special focus on the online payment and e-commerce sectors in China. Miranda has authored several reports on leading third-party payment providers in China, as well as our 2009 report Online Payment and e-Commerce in China. Her customized research projects have covered a wide range of topics for clients such as Visa, WireCard, and Gilbarco.

Junelyn Han - Analyst, Business Development Manager

 

Junelyn has worked at Maverick China Research since 2007. Her analyst work focuses on mobile payment and m-commerce in China. She was in charge of the latest version of Maverick China's Mobile Payment in China series of market reports, our 2009 report on International Remittances in China, and various customized research projects. In addition to her analyst work, Junelyn also oversees many of Maverick China's partnerships with conference organizers, expert networks, and report resellers.
